why foster with us?
how foster wales supports foster carers
support that makes a difference, from the people who know it best
Fostering is a life-changing decision, and feeling supported makes all the difference. In Denbighshire, and across Wales, foster carers are supported every day by dedicated teams, practical advice and people who understand the realities of fostering.
We share what that support looks like in real life.
In the words of foster carers themselves.
what support means to foster carers
Support is not just about processes or payments. For foster carers, it’s about knowing that someone is there to listen, guide, and step up when in matters most.
Every fostering journey is different, but carers consistently tell us that support plays a key role in making them feel confident, capable and never on their own.
foster carer voices
Hear what our foster carer say…
always there when we need support
The support we have received from our supervising social worker has been fantastic. I know that whenever we need her, she is only a phone call or text away. Even if she’s busy at the time, she will always acknowledge my message and let me know when she’ll get back to me. During those hard goodbyes, she has been a great support to us as foster carers and to our family. She has been a big part of our fostering journey, and we couldn’t have done it without her.”
supported to succeed
Choosing to foster with Foster Wales Denbighshire has been the best decision I’ve made. Throughout my journey, I’ve felt supported and encouraged, and that has given me the confidence to continue fostering. As a single male foster carer, that support has helped me grow in the role.”
when support matters
how we support foster carers across wales
Every Local Authority in Wales, from Denbighshire to Swansea, has signed up to the Foster Wales National Commitment – an agreed package of training, support and rewards offered to every Foster Wales carer.
This commitment sets out the core support you can expect, ensuring you feel valued, informed and supported throughout your fostering journey.
- From your initial assessment with a qualified social worker to ongoing guidance from a dedicated Foster Wales team member, you’ll receive consistent professional support, along with regular opportunities to share your views.
- Carers also benefit from peer support, tailored learning and development, at least six support groups each year, and a minimum of two social events for the whole household.
- You’ll receive newsletters, discount schemes, a paid membership to The Fostering Network, and support to create your foster carer profile to help children settle smoothly into your home. Foster Wales also recognises your dedication with appreciation gestures and long‑service certificates, ensuring you feel valued every step of the way.
